Did you know that a whopping 1.3 million Aussies own a motorboat or speed boat? Obviously, we don’t all live a stone’s throw from the water, so most of us need a way to get our boats from our homes to the sea, river or nearest creek. That’s why we rely on our boat trailers to make sure our weekend fishing trips always go smoothly.

Even though the boat trailer is a workhorse that makes regular fishing trips possible, it’s sometimes neglected compared to the boat itself. But it’s time we give some love to the hardworking and humble boat trailer!

So if you want to protect your boat trailer but aren’t sure where to start, we’
ll go through each place you can use an INOX product on your boat trailer to ensure the best ongoing performance and protection. If you’re using INOX, then you can enjoy stress-free boating, knowing that your equipment is getting the very best.

Wheel Bearings

One of the most common failures people have with their boat trailers is a seized or failed bearing. If you notice a grinding sound or your trailer is pulling a bit more than usual, that’s a sure sign you need to re-grease or replace your bearings.

INOX-MX8 Extreme Pressure Grease protects your bearings from rust, corrosion and resist squeeze out while also keeping everything running smoothly.

Bearings are one of the most vital items on your boat trailer, but they’re hidden away and often forgotten. That is until they jam up and ruin a perfectly good day that could be spent fishing. Keeping your bearings greased improves how long they will last before needing to be replaced. There are several bearing lubricant systems, so make sure you know how to keep your particular bearings greased and oiled.

Tow Balls

It’s a bit of a polarising topic if you should grease your tow ball or not. If you prefer to get a longer lease of life out of it, we recommend using a light coating of INOX-MX8 to prevent rust development and keep it structurally sound for much longer.

Grease is one of the best ways to prevent corrosion and unwanted heat build-up. It can also prevent rattling caused by a rust build-up on the hitch. If you don’t see the need in greasing your tow ball, no worries, there are still plenty of places to use INOX around the boat.

Trailer Winch

To keep your trailer winch working in the best condition, we recommend greasing it with INOX-MX8. While servicing your winch, the best practice is to clean all the existing grease and oil off the parts, then apply MX8 evenly with a paintbrush or you could use the INOX MX8 aerosol to spray evenly. Apply grease to the teeth of each gear and on all shafts and moving parts. Then re-assemble and oil the pawls and springs.

While you’re at it, check the condition of your winch strap. It’s always good to give this a look so you know when it’s on the way out. The last thing you want is for it to snap while retrieving your boat. That can cause harm to not only the vessel, but also anyone helping in the process. Plus, if you’re around other anglers, it could be a little embarrassing for your boat to flop on the pavement.

Bunks or Rollers

A spray of either INOX MX3 or LANOX MX4 can improve how easily your boat goes on and off the trailer. To stop your bunks from scratching your hull and make it easier to slide off the trailer, give them a coating of LANOX-MX4. You’ll be amazed at how easily your boat slides on and off the trailer – make sure to have a rope or a secure hold on the boat to stop it from getting away from you. LANOX is made with Lanolin, a natural wax found in animal wool, especially the wool from sheep. It doesn’t wash off with water and is widely used in the marine industry.

If you have stainless steel roller shafts, its not essential to lubricate them. But, a touch of marine grease wouldn’t hurt and assists them in the long run by fighting corrosion and rust build-up, because after a while, even stainless steel rusts.

Let’s say you got your boat into the water easy enough, but upon hitching it back up, it’s harder to get it back onto the trailer. If your rollers feel dry or gritty and are hard to turn, a spray of INOX MX4 or MX3 may help enough to get the boat on easier. But at that stage, it may be time to replace the rollers.

Mud Guards

To make cleaning easier, coat your trailer’s mudguards with LANOX-MX4 a couple of days before you get to the water. This way, you can just hose it off, and the salt residue will easily wash away.

Rust Spots

If you’ve spotted a few rust blemishes on your trailer, hit them with the wire brush or an abrasive product you have available to remove any surface corrosion. After, give it a good coating of an anti-corrosive product like INOX-MX4 that prevents oxidation and rust from forming on the surface, it is a natural anti-corrosion compound that is not soluble in water and leaves a protective film behind..

Trailer Body

If you want to give your whole trailer a protective covering, we recommend using LANOX-MX4-750 and spray it on the chassis, axles and springs. This coating gives you  protection from oxidation, rust and other forms of corrosion that are quickened by regular contact with salt water.
