At INOX, a lot of our customers are really into motorsports, whether it be watching the sport or participating in it. Over the years, we’ve picked up some tips on how even the most basic beginner can get involved with motorsports, and it’s probably not as difficult as you would think. Read our list of tips for beginners below:
Try Go-Karting First
If you’re a total beginner, the best way to get your first experience of motorsports is to head to your local go-karting track and start getting a feel for this style of racing and driving and also to make sure you’re comfortable with driving at high speeds. In fact, Lewis Hamilton began his motorsports career in go-karting when he was just eight years old, and he still claims that it’s “the best form of racing”.
Join a Club
Joining a car club is one of the best and most effective steps you can take towards becoming involved in motorsports. There are over 580 car clubs across Australia with a diverse range of both enthusiast and sporting members. In order to get a Motorsport Australia Licence, you’ll have to be a member of a club.
Get your Licence
Getting a Motorsport Australia Licence is easier than it has ever been before. First-time applicants can register using the online portal. You can use this portal to apply for a licence, renew your licence, view your licence history, update any medical info and see upcoming events.
Find an Entry-Level Competition
The problem with Motorsports is that it can end up being a pretty expensive sport to compete in. There’s the expense of modifying your car, getting your license, hefty entry fees for competitions, safety gear etc. Most motorsports pros generally have sponsorships to take care of these things, but when you’re trying to break onto the motorsports scene, you won’t have the luxury of sponsorships. The good news is that there are quite a few entry-level competitions that won’t break the bank and they’re usually for cars that are lightly modified or even not modified at all. Do some research and find your closest one.
Consider your Options
From speed and non-speed to rallying, motorcycle sport and pretty much everything in between, there is a wide variety of motorsports to be experienced. Do your research and try your hand at as many as you can to see which kind of motorsport you are best suited for and which one you enjoy the most. There’s no point in investing time and money in one kind of racing just to figure out that it’s not for you.
